Introduction to Transcriptomics Analysis by Tim Kuijpers

On Thursday 22 April 2021 at 12.00-13.00, Tim will be giving a presentation on Introduction to Transcriptomics Analysis. Below is a short description on what will be discussed:

Transcriptomics technologies provide us with powerful information to explore a cellular response to the environment. Microarray technologies and high-throughput RNA sequencing technologies made it possible to measure the expression levels of thousands of genes in a single experiment. To gain novel information from these experiments, bioinformatics tools are used to identify key genes involved in biological processes underlying a phenotype. For example, researchers studied gene expression responses to discover a suitable cell model for in vitro biomaterial testing.

In this introduction to transcriptomics analysis, we will briefly discuss the common techniques to measure gene expression (Microarray / RNA sequencing) and the various bioinformatic tools used, such as GO term analysis, pathway analysis, and network analysis. At the end of this presentation, you will have a basic understanding of transcriptomics analysis and should be able to apply the discussed bioinformatics tools.
