VENI grant for Aurélie Carlier

We are proud to announce MERLN's first successful VENI award to a very promising young investigator. In her proposal "Shaping the building blocks of life," Dr. Carlier will use computational techniques to investigate how cell shape can steer cell functioning. She hopes that this fundamental understanding of our basic building blocks, can be used to improve orthopaedic implants. The VENI is the first grant in the prestigious line of talent identification grants given by the Dutch Funding agency, NWO.

Aurélie Carlier selected to join the Tissue Engineering Young Investigator Council 2016

Aurélie Carlier, Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the cBITE group of Jan de Boer at Merln has been selected out of a group of 450 applicants to join the 2016 Tissue Engineering Young Investigator Council (TEN YIC). As a Young Investigator she will have the opportunity to build her skills as an esteemed reviewer of journal manuscripts, partake in editorial board activities and meetings, develop content to be featured in the journal, work alongside the other YIC members and TERMIS SYIS members and build her reputation and network in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Her one year term starts on February 1, 2016.

Press Release Investments in Materiomics

Chemelot Ventures BV, Limburg Business Development Fund BV (LBDF) and the current shareholders have decided to jointly invest €1.4 million in Materiomics BV, located at the Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus. This financing round will be used to develop prototypes of medical devices with a smart surface structure like stents, catheters, breast implants, teeth implants and artificial hips. The smart surface structures will be developed in close cooperation with research institute MERLN at Maastricht University, MUMC+ and industrial partners.
